October So Far...
White Coat Ceremony
Early this month Kurt had his white coat ceremony. It was actually a great thing for us. It was a nice reminder for us that Kurt will one day be able to help patients rather than just isolate himself in the library to study for biochem. There is an end!
Hail Storm!
A couple of weeks ago I got a phone call from Kurt. He was on his way home from school (a block from our house). He told me to go out front and look at the sky. I couldn't believe it. There was a storm cloud rolling in so fast it felt like I was in one of those rediculous end of the earth movies. About a minute later, after I had gone back inside, I heard what sounded like rocks hitting our windows. I thought our roof was going to cave in. I ran to the window and saw hail the size of golf balls. Some bigger.
I was just glad Kurt had decided to drive the 2 minutes to school that day. That might have been a painful walk home. Unfortunatley, Kurt's car took quite a beating. He was actually on our street when it happened. If he had been 15 seconds earlier our car would be in a bit better condition. I took the car to the insurance company the other day to get an estimate. The damage totaled almost 4 thousand dollars!
Our house held up pretty well. We had a mess to clean up in the yard and our screens are pretty torn up, but we feel pretty lucky. Some of our neighbors had broken windows and damaged roofs. One neighbor lost a huge tree that blocked off our street for a few days.
Trip To Albuquerque!
Last week I was able to go to New Mexico and visit my sisters. Every October they have a Balloon Fiesta. Hundreds of balloons go up every morning. It was fun to see all the bright colors and shapes. What's really fun is chasing them down in the car to see where they land. One landed in a highschool football field where the team was having practice. The team actually helped pull the balloon in.
We also had fun going to the zoo. Colby loved playing with his cousins. Now we just need to finish school so we can be closer to them. Maybe someday.

Turning 1
We can't believe our little boy is already a year old. Time has gone by so fast. Colby is such a sweet boy, and we feel blessed to have him as our son.
We had a little ice cream party for is birthday. He enjoyed eating his cake, but it took quite a while for him to get going on it. Don't ask me where he learned it, but he gets upset when his hands are messy. We ended up having to feed most of it to him with a fork.

Superhero Birthday Party
Colby's friend Jack turned three last week and had a superhero birthday party. Colby was too little to participate in a lot of the activities but still had a great time. Each of the kids got their own cape. Colby looked hilarious. His went past his feet. The best part of the whole party was when spiderman came to visit. All of the kids started crying. I thought it would be cute to have him take a picture on his lap. He wasn't too happy.
Labor Day
Kurt had Labor Day off and we were able to drive to Mesa and visit his sister's grave. It was such a beautiful day and a great experience for our family. We are so grateful for eternal families.
Kurt also took Colby on his first motorcycle ride around our circle. He didn't enjoy it as much as Kurt hoped and dreamed but he didn't cry. I guess that is a start.

Shoes, who would have thought...
Today I decided it was time for Colby to where shoes on a regular basis. I have never made him wear them, because he hasn't really needed them, and it is so hot here. Now that he is starting to stand more and trying to walk, I thought it was time. After today's incident, I think I should have made him start earlier. This is how he reacted.

Fun with Daddy!!
Now that Kurt has started school, our time with him seems so precious. Colby loves it when daddy comes home and plays his guitar. He trys to sing along with Kurt. It's pretty funny.
Spending time with daddy on his day off.
Fun In Utah!
We had the opportunity to go to Utah for a few days before Kurt started school. We had a great time hanging out and relaxing with family. Colby sure had fun with his cousins.
Didn't think it would be that hard to get the kids to look at the camera.
The little kid rides made us more sick than the big rollercoasters.
First time at the lake. He wasn't quite sure what to think.
